The effect of a combination of -irradiation by Co60 (R) and
a laser irradiation (= 639,8 nm) (L) of the apple-tree seeds have been
studied. R itself led to a considerable diminishing of a seeds' viability.
L, while taking place in 5 min after ( R ), did not lead to any improvement.
Meanwhile, when R - L time interval increased up to 25 min the viability
of 40% of seeds have been restored. The best results have been obtained
if L duration reached 60 s or 120 s. The reversion of R - L succession
(L before R) promoted the seeds' resistance to R. When L- R interval reached
25 min the effect was the same as under R - L succession with the same
time interval. Generally, a coherent laser irradiation increased the range
of variability (in some cases exceeding the natural phenotypical variability
of Malus genus), a frequency of rare mutations, seeds' viability
and the adaptivity of the mutants (including their resistance to fungi
diseases).
