The yearly conference of the members of the International Institute of Biophysics (IIB) took place on August 24th to 31st, with presentations of the results of last year‘s work. After the election of two new members from Japan, the IIB has now 22 members in 12 countries, who presented their lectures in the rooms of the splendid new institute building at the former NATO missile lanching site. In addition, Barbara Köhler from the Gesamthochschule Kassel who had started the work for her PhD dissertation several years ago in Popp´s group in Kaiserslautern, presented the results of her recently finished dissertation. She confirmed her earlier finding that there are significant differences between the eggs of caged hens and eggs of free range hens. After some opening remarks on Friday evening by the president of the IIB, the honorary member Fanchon Fröhlich, the widow of the late Herbert Fröhlich, the president of the IIB, Jiin-Ju Chang and the vice-presidents Lev Beloussov, Roeland van Wijk and Fritz-Albert Popp, the conference started on Saturday morning. On Wednesday, August 29, the conference was interrupted by a boat trip on the Rhine from Rüdesheim to Koblenz. Thursday, August 30

The conference was followed by the first IIB summer school on "Biophotons in Life Sciences" given by the members of the IIB on September 2-8, with 16 participants from the USA, Great Britain, Brazil, Germany, Slovenia, South Korea, and India. The IIB plans to hold a summer school every year.
